修道院的管理者波塔惟恐天下不亂，海倫的神秘深深吸引了波塔，波塔為了轉移邁可的注意力，建議教授雇請年輕貌美的皮耶黛為助理，海倫發現先生為了工作而忽略了她，加上皮耶黛的介入，更使修道院內的眾人關系更加緊張。
而這正符合了波塔的邪惡本質，以及海倫為了愛而放任自己被妒意操縱的人性沖突。
