Today is history，是《辛德勒名单》中的一句台词。
拉尔夫·费因斯饰演的德国军官戈伦，在率领党卫军扫荡克拉克夫犹太人居住的街区前，发表的一段讲演，他用厚重的鼻音重复了几遍。
历史，对于每一个人，既熟悉又陌生。但是，惨痛的过去意味着历史吗？应该说既是又不是。当我们用惨痛这个词来强调它的伤害时，过去已经变成一种历史感。《辛德勒名单》尽管给我们呈现了那一段过去，但没有强调历史的惨痛，这惨痛是我们的体会，不是影片本身。
这一段历史在影片中超出背景的意义，所以，德国人也好犹太人也好，既不批判他们也没有歌颂他们，这已经无需举例。
我们希望它可以更完美一些，希望而已，《辛德勒名单》的目的是救命！

“拯救一人，即拯救全世界！”这样的话听来，和我们中国人常常听到的“救人一命胜造七级浮屠”有着不谋而合的道理，救命的意义不是在于救命的行为，而是带来的心灵净化，他首先是拯救了自己。
辛德勒作为故事主人公，他的一生没有在影片里完全展开，但最为全面而重要的部分在战争这一放大镜下，我们已经看到了。历史背景之下，辛德勒是作为一个商人出现，进而他是一个纳粹党员。当然，他信不信国家社会主义不重要，重要的是在影片开始的酒会上，他突出地表明了一个投机分子的作风。他对犹太人没有什么感情，在历史机遇到来时，他敏锐的抓住了机遇，发了战争财，他巧妙的榨取了犹太人的血汗。

1993年，美国著名导演史蒂文.斯皮尔伯格带领《辛德勒名单》一片摄制组初抵波兰，就在他们跨进二战期间克拉科夫中营准备安营扎寨之时，突然收到全美犹太人协会从纽约发来的一封急电："请勿惊扰亡魂，让他们安息吧。"斯皮尔伯格读完这聊聊数语的电文，一言不发。他当即下令摄制组全体人员撤离克拉科夫集中营，转移到几十公里以外，搭置布景拍摄。与此同时，他独自一人离开了摄制组，乘飞机直接飞往纽约。斯皮尔伯格不派代表，不借助电话、电报、电传等迅速方便的现代化通讯工具而横跨大西洋，亲赴纽约向"犹协"致歉，他的谦逊和诚意令"犹协"全体成员无不动容。难怪后来国际影评界交口赞誉《辛德勒名单》是"一位充满人道主义精神的导演拍摄的一部洋溢人道主义气息的电影"。
